ENTRY/EXIT

To enter, enter the code you were given on the front door keypad, then press the checkmark.

When exiting, make sure both patio doors (upstairs and downstairs) and sunroom door are locked. To lock the front door from outside, press the “Yale” button on the top of the door keypad.

ALARM SYSTEM

Important: Our fire alarms are connected to the local fire department.

On the alarm keypad in the entry, enter “4545” then “cancel” (cancel is the button on top, the shield icon with the X) to disarm a false alarm. This action will only stop the alarm, it will not cancel the fire department dispatch. Call Jim or Laura to cancel the accidental fire truck dispatch: 610-306-8018 or 610-306-8017.

Guests should not use the wood stove if they do not know how to warm up a flue, start, or properly vent a wood stove fire. It can smoke up the whole house and set off the smoke alarm if you don't know what you are doing. (See further instructions, below.)

The best way to avoid accidentally setting off the smoke alarm (while cooking or using the wood stove, for example) is to keep the upstairs bedroom doors open during the day so the smoke doesn’t get trapped and has exit points through the bedroom windows.

The house security system will be remotely set when not currently rented. It will not be armed during your stay.

The security system has one outside camera to the right of the front entrance. This camera is used for remote security alerts only.

WIFI

WiFi network: kilkenny
WiFi password: 12FeetDeep

SHED LOCK

“5208” on padlock. (Note that the code is the top row on the padlock.)

ETIQUETTE

Smoking is not permitted in or around the lake house.

PARKING

Please park cars in the lake house paved circular driveway (maximum: 5). Please keep cars off natural areas and Woodland Avenue, where parking is not allowed at any time.

NOISE ORDINANCE

Be respectful of our wonderful neighbors. All outdoor noise after 10pm should be kept to a minimum. Sound travels on water and we ask that you be courteous of the other vacationers and homeowners. Fireworks are not allowed at Lake Naomi.

SEPTIC SYSTEM + WELL

The house has a private well and electric pump with PH neutralizer and water conditioner. The water is potable, and is safe for drinking, coffee, tea, cooking, brushing teeth, showering, etc. The refrigerator offers filtered drinking water and ice. If the refrigerator dispenser’s water pressure is low, it may be time for a filter change. Water filters are located in the top drawer next the dishwasher.

Please do not flush anything except septic safe toilet paper down the toilet. Any other products including flushable wipes, facial tissues, paper towels, feminine protection of any type can clog the septic system and should be placed in the trash. There is no garbage disposal in the kitchen sink due to the septic system, so please put food scraps in the trash—not down the sink drain.

HEATING + COOLING

The wall units are a heat pump system and are up to 3x more energy efficient than the baseboard heaters. Remote controls for the Mitsubishi Heating and AC upper wall units are located at the entrance of each bedroom upstairs and in the kitchen. Point the control at the unit to change the temperature. All units must be in the same mode for proper operation (heat, cool, etc.) View simple instructions here.

Warming up the fireplace flue downstairs prior to a fire is essential to keep smoke from billowing throughout the house, setting off the fire alarm, and ruining your stay! It entails heating it for a few minutes with a hair dryer, blown through a hole in cardboard that is covering the opening to keep ash from blowing around the room (both are provided on the right of the top shelf in the closet by the front door). Once this is done, there should be enough of an updraft to properly start a fire and vent the smoke up the chimney, but please avoid unless you’re experienced with starting and maintaining an indoor fire. Not following proper instructions can damage the wood stove and possibly start a fire in the chimney flue. Please see more detailed instructions in the wooden binder by the front door.

The upstairs fireplace is for ambiance only—it essentially sucks the heat out of the house. If used, make sure the flue is open.

Keep baseboard heaters (touchscreens and manual dials) set to 50 when you check out.
It’s cool to leave the heated floor thermostat in the master bath set to between 70-80.

TRASH + RECYCLING

Trash collection is on MONDAY and recycling collection is on FRIDAY mornings (before 8am) - Pull RED FLAG out.

Place your bagged trash in the bear-proof rolling bin next to the wood trash shelter in the driveway. Place your UNBAGGED recycling items in the blue bin within the protective wood trash shelter bins. Secure the lids on each bin to keep smaller animals from opening bags. Sneaky buggers.

Due to the hungry nature of bears, raccoons, and other animals, do not allow containers to overflow or leave trash bags and bins sitting outside the bear-proof bin or wood trash shelter.

If you have excessive recycling or trash, please take it to the disposal center at 353 Sullivan Trail, Long Pond, PA 18334. Cost is a few bucks per bag.

We have two step trash cans in the kitchen—one labeled for trashand one for recycling. Please recycle your glass, plastics #1-7 and clean paper/cardboard. Please make sure food/grease is removed from containers. Additional accepted items: juice boxes, milk cartons, aerosol cans. Recycling items NOT accepted: plastic bags, bottle caps, pizza boxes, styrofoam, lids, food, compost, yard waste, clothing, diapers.

CLEANING SUPPLIES

You’ll find plenty of cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink, in the kitchen closet, and in the bathrooms. Please use the dishwashing soap, dishwasher detergent pods, and hand soap provided—they are safe for our septic tank. If we are out of something, please let us know and we’ll replace it.

Vacuum cleaner, brooms, and mops are in hall and kitchen closets. Cleaning rags are located in baskets over the washer and dryer.

COUNTERTOP + COOKTOP

If you stain the white quartz countertops (wine, sauce or otherwise), please use the “Barkeepers Friend” soft scrub from under the kitchen sink—it will come right out.

Please clean induction cooktop (with wipes) after each use so food and oil won’t stain the ceramic top.

APPLIANCES

The refrigerator offers clean filtered water and ice. Please do not change the temperature of the refrigerator or freezer.

Instructions for the washer/dryer and kitchen appliances, including the induction cooktop, coffee maker, blender, microwave and the oven are in the top drawer next to the dishwasher.

Speaking of the induction cooktop, if you brought any pans with you, they may not work on the cooktop. Use the pans in the cabin.

Practice water and energy conservation. Please only run the dishwasher or washing machine once per day with the soaps provided. Our septic tank thanks you!

There is no garbage disposal due to the septic system so please put food scraps in the trash, not down the sink drain. There’s a mesh drain cover to catch small pieces of food waste. Empty it into the trash periodically—tap it on the edge of the bin.

TELEVISIONS

The family room and master bedroom TV has a built-in Roku system. They are set to Guest Mode. You can enter your own streaming passwords—they will be automatically erased when you stay is over.

The TVs in the sunroom is equipped with an Apple TV. You’re welcome to login to your own streaming services, but please remember to logout when leaving, as they will not be automatically deleted.

AMAZON ALEXA

You can access your own Amazon Alexa services (like streaming your personal music) on the Echo Studio in the dining area by logging in with Guest Mode. Instructions for Guest Mode are available here.

SONOS

To play music from your phone or computer using the two Sonos speakers (by TV & in dining room), download the Sonos application on your phone.

POWER OUTAGE

While power outages are rare, they can occur.

Check to see if the neighbors have lights. If so, check for tripped breakers in the entry hallway closet.

Report the outage to PPL online or by calling 800-342-5775.

We have a few items handy to get you through the first few hours of a power outage:

Light: Emergency flashlights, candles, and matches are located in the kitchen’s center island cabinet under the wine storage area.

Water: Since the well pump is powered by electricity, the house will not have water during a power outage. There are 2.5 gallon & 5 gallon containers of drinking water under the sunroom utility sink.

Heat: The wood stove can keep the first floor warm during a power outage. The master bedroom has a fireplace. Learn how to start & maintain a wood stove fire here.

If you have a temporary LNC membership, you may use the community center, which has a back up generator.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Grill and Fire pit safety: Grills can be used on gravel patio areas only. Keep grills away from house walls. No grills on porches or decks.

ALL FIRES MUST BE CLOSELY ATTENDED.

Propane Grill: We have two propane tanks available for your use. The spare is kept on the side of the house near the shed. Clean the grill and, once it cools down, place the cover back on the grill.

Charcoal Grill: Do not dump charcoal into the yard. We have an ash bucket for hot coals. Do not leave a hot ash bucket on the porch.

After eating outside, always bring food and dishes inside. Never leave dishes outside overnight. This is an invitation for pests, critters, and bears to dine on the porch.

Keep lakeside fire pit covered when not in use to avoid water damage.

Fishing is permitted from the boats, as well as our waterfront beach and dock. Bass and sunfish can be caught, and the lake is stocked with trout each spring. While Naomi is a private lake, it is patrolled by the game warden, and all anglers 16 and over are required to purchase a PA Fishing License.

Fire extinguisher is located in the labeled kitchen cabinet next to the oven.

BICYCLES + WALKING

Wear helmets while bicycling. Helmets are provided. Bicycle on the RIGHT side of the road—with traffic. Ride single file to let cars pass safely. Walk and run on the LEFT side of the road—against traffic.

BEACH + DOCK

Lake Naomi is 12 feet at its deepest point and very shallow and rocky around the shorelines. No jumping or diving into the lake from the dock.

LN community does not allow solo open water swimming. Swimmers are hard to see by boaters, fishers, and sailors. If you are a seasoned swimmer and want to swim outside designated swim areas, you must be closely accompanied by an attending boat.

SUPS, KAYAKS, AND CANOE

Wear lifejackets and an orange emergency whistle when boating.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult and must wear a lifejacket.

Bring the boats to shore at the first sign of storms—do not wait to hear thunder.

Since Lake Naomi is shallow and very rocky, please do not dive or jump into the water from the boats.

Store the paddles on the back porch and life jackets in shed.

Keep covers on kayaks at the end of each day to keep bugs out of boat cavity.

If you fish from the dock or the boats, please clean up well to avoid any unpleasant fish odors or hazardous bait and hooks (from the dock, yard, and water).
